Energy is one of the priorities of global industries. Electrical energy is crucial for the efficient operation of enterprises and human life, development of individual regions and entire continents. Vehicles, hospitals, schools, plants, and factories can’t work without electricity. However, its use, as well as an increase in energy output by thermal power, hydro, and nuclear power plants result in a number of adverse consequences and that is the reverse of the technological developments.

During the long years, the world leaders didn’t respond to the ecologists’ caveats that called for the management of energy resources. Once the Chernobyl accident had happened in 1986, humanity took a fresh look at the risks of the operation of nuclear power and other types of plants.

Prevalent environmental problems with power stations

Environmental challenges of powerhouses attract the attention of scientists and members of the public. Those issues are real threats and reasons for the following effects:

  • Air pollution.
  • The emission of gas and dust contamination.
  • Environmental pollution with radioactive and toxic waste management of electricity production.
  • Increase of average annual air temperature by several degrees.
  • Formation of electromagnetic fields.

The complexity of the disposal of nuclear waste is a serious problem of energy. Waste management destroys the biosphere, diminishes the quality of fertile soil, and can become the reason for the destruction of plants and animals.

Large volumes of water are used to make nuclear power stations work. It leads to the disruption of the ecosystem in specific regions.

How to solve the power stations’ ecological issues?

Environmental challenges have to be addressed urgently. Otherwise, the consequences of air pollution might become irreversible. It’s crucial to align the increased energy consumption with the risk of environmental pollution and to focus on alternative energies’ projects that are based on renewable energy production of the Sun, water or wind. It’s also important to solve the problem of recycling.
Only an integrated approach to the environmental protection problems at the international level will address the issue of the power stations, protect people’s health and lives.
