Solar panels and wind generators: what is more efficient?

Solar panels and wind generators: what is more efficient?

A modern industry offers solar and wind power plants for home but not every ordinary consumer can figure out what kind of alternative energy will be more profitable in his case. To understand this, we will try to figure out what advantages and disadvantages the solar panels and wind generators have.

A modern industry offers solar and wind power plants for home but not every ordinary consumer can figure out what kind of alternative energy will be more profitable in his case. To understand this, we will try to figure out what advantages and disadvantages the solar panels and wind generators have.

Pros and cons of solar power plants

Clear advantages:

  • long service life — stable operation for decades;
  • no need for frequent maintenance;
  • simple installation — batteries are mounted on a flat surface of any type with the use of the most common fasteners.

Disadvantages:

  • a decrease in efficiency in the wintertime by about five times;
  • high dependence on current weather.

A windmill for home: advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

  • round-the-clock work (activity even with a fairly weak wind force);
  • high power of the wind generator;
  • fast installation speed — household windmills can be installed in just a couple of hours.

Cons:

  • quite a high installation price;
  • low efficiency of the wind generator, or more precisely, its installation. Most often, the device operates with a wind of 2-4 m/s giving out, as a result, the volume of electricity is much lower than the nominal value;
  • short service life — the predominant part of the models has to be repaired every 2-3 years;
  • a problem with grease freezing at subzero temperatures;
  • periodic need for maintenance;
  • noise — applies only to industrial models.
  • Let’s compare the wind generator with the solar panel: conclusions
    Based on the advantages and disadvantages, it can be concluded that the effectiveness of wind generators or solar panels completely depends on living conditions. If you are looking for an alternative source of energy and live near the sea/ocean, in settlements located at the northern latitudes or in any open area, then a windmill for your home is definitely worth buying.

If your area is limited, for example, in conditions of dense development or you live in a village with long light periods, you definitely need to choose solar panels.
However, you do not have to rush between these two options because the most efficient wind generator has been invented a long time ago. Back in 2012, SolarMill engineers developed an exclusive hybrid version consisting of six wind generators and six single-crystal panels. On a windy and sunny day at the same time, such a plant can produce a total of up to 2.5 kW/h and at night, the production of electricity comes mainly from windmills.
